Your Day’s Itinerary
Day 1: Dublin - Wicklow - Kilkenny
Our next stop will be Kilkenny city and 13th century castle. Originally Strongbow built a wooden castle on that site overlooking the River Nore in 1172. Around 30 years later, his son-in-law, the Earl of Pembroke built the first stone castle.
Three of the castle’s original four walls still survive today. The fourth wall on the south side of the Castle is missing also the gatehouse, moat, and tower. The cause of this is because of Cromwell’s attack on the Castle in 1650 and his use of cannon on the building.
Kilkenny City over-night.

The cave began its life hundreds of thousands of years ago when very weakly acidic water flowed off the nearby shale and began dissolving the limestone rock.
